Former Olympian gives masterclass

Former Olympian gives masterclass

Second year BSc Sports and Exercise and FdSc Cycling Performance students were put through a sprinting masterclass as part of their Principles of Strength and Conditioning module by the former Olympic athlete Prince Duwai.

Prince competed in the 1984 Olympics for Sierra Leone and now coaches some exciting young athletes including Ashleigh Nelson and Adeseye Ogunlewe.

WUC Lecturer Ryan Lateward, who worked with the USA Olympic team in Rio this year, commented: "It was an informative, insightful (and slightly competitive!) experience for our students and staff."

Students assist with elite fitness testing

First-year sports students assisted Dr Greg Deacon as he put football academy pupils from Harris Chafford Hundred secondary school through various tests that elite athletes would undergo when being assessed.

Body composition, thirty second anaerobic power and VO2max were measured in an intense two hour session.

Cross Country race held on campus

The annual County Cross Country Junior and Vets races took place at Writtle University College on November 26th.

Over 700 athletes took part in the six races that took in all of the campus during the challenging 5 mile route. The beautiful backdrop of the reservoir created the perfect amphitheatre for some great athletic performances.

Writtle University College hosts two Essex County Championship competitions and two league races a year. There is also a Championship junior triathlon that WUC is hosting on July 16th 2017.

Congratulations to Dr Deacon!
